Putu Bambu
“PUTU BAMBU” yeah, that’s one of my favorite Indonesian dish, well it
actually more like a dessert or snack. It’s such an interesting food, why? The
way they make this food is unique, where the mixture of shredded coconut, rice
flour, and Javanesse brown sugar is steamed inside a piece of bamboo! The brown
sugar is placed in the middle of the rice and shredded coconut. After they
steamed this for a few minutes, it will form like a popsicle, where then they
serve it topped with white sugar and more shredded coconut, which blends
together and it will melt in your
mouth. I know you guys must be very curious about it right? Below this text is
some pictures I’ve took , check it out!
Martabak Manis
“MARTABAK MANIS” , I can’t think of its English name, well who doesn’t know martabak? The most favourite and popular night snack in Indonesia. The first martabak was made in 1930, it kinda look like a traditional cake, where the mixture of flour, milk, sugar, some kind like pancake mixture is putted on a pan. Yeah ! its Indonesian pancake ! but with the size much more larger than america’s pancake, and much more thicker. After the mixture is cooked well, its is topped with cheese, chocolate, nuts, or you could even put nuttela ore ovomaltine on it ( modern style martabak) and ofcourse, don’t forget to put some milk on it.
Sekoteng
“SEKOTENG” is a kind of ginger soup . in this food you could find and taste lots of Indonesian spices, it has a rich taste. The recipe for making sekoteng is very simple and easy, where you’ll need ginger, doughtball made of flour with nuts inside it, plain toast, jelly, roasted nuts. First we need to steam the ginger , put some water, and after steaming, boil the ginger with water and sugar, this is for the soup, then its done actually, where you just need to put all the other ingredients in, that’s it !
With sumptuous flavors and beautiful colors, these Indonesian desserts are one of Southeast Asia’s most delicious foods. It’s no wonder the country’s desserts are such a delight to see, smell, and taste. Putu Bambu is made of rice flour called suji and colored green with pandan leaves, filled with palm sugar, steamed in bamboo tubes (hence the name), and served with desiccated coconut. Sekoteng is also a famous hot beverage in Indonesia. Martabak Manis is also a versatile dessert that can be enjoyed with both savoury and sweet. A very popular street snack there.
