Es Pisang Ijo

Ice Green Banana or as known as es pisang ijo, is the most common dessert in Makassar, Indonesia. Makassar is one of the indonesia’s provincial capital of South Sulawesi, where it create a lot of tasty and delicious dessert.  Es pisang ijo is some kind of fresh dessert that mainly contains fresh and sweet bananas. Not all bananas could be used, only severals type of bananas. The most common banana is Pisang Raja, that brings out a sticky texture and some kind of sweet taste. Es pisang ijo could be the most suitable dessert to accompany us when the weather are scorching or the heat are so stinging. That is why in the summer days, es pisang ijo is so widely purchased. Nowdays, many store that sells es pisang ijo, and some of the indonesian restaurant put es pisang ijo to be their dessert menu. 
 Making es pisang ijo isn’t as hard as it seems, but it need a lot of practice and the ingredients are easy.  You will need pisang raja, flavored cyrups (any flavor you like) , crushed ice, rice flour, cane sugar, pandan leaves, suji leaves, sago, flour, coconut milk and salt. here’s how you do it, first cook the banana, next blend the pandan leaves and suji leaves with a processor or a blender add some water and strain the mixture, set it aside. Mix together the rice flour, cane sugar, sago, flour, coconut milk and the mixture of pandan leaves and suji leaves and knead it until it’s well-blended. Wrap the banana with the dough and steam it again until the dough turn to dark green colored. Finally, put the wrapped banana into the crushed ice and pour the flavored cyrups, Done!

In Indonesia, we usually called it "kolak biji salak". This kind of food are usually sold during the month of fasting that people will break their fast at the evening. it was made from sweet potato with the starch for the soup and coconut milk for the sauce. it tasted sweet and it also can be served hot or cold. usually it's decorated with pandan leaves on top to make it smells good.



Ice Cendol

sounds like sweet potato dumpling, ice cendol also one of the typical dessert in Indonesia. it also tasted sweet and refreshing mouth. Cendol is made from pandan leaves which mixed with rice flour, water whiting, and coconut milk to make it springy. it also served with sauce that made from brown sugar, pandan leaves, and coconut milk. Ice cendol also can be combined with a scoop of ice dream or sometimes people add some durians to it. it just a simple kind of dessert but it really tasted good and recomended.


Putu Bambu, Martabak Manis, Sekoteng

“PUTU BAMBU” yeah, that’s one of my favorite Indonesian dish, well it actually more like a dessert or snack. It’s such an interesting food, why? The way they make this food is unique, where the mixture of shredded coconut, rice flour, and Javanesse brown sugar is steamed inside a piece of bamboo! The brown sugar is placed in the middle of the rice and shredded coconut. After they steamed this for a few minutes, it will form like a popsicle, where then they serve it topped with white sugar and more shredded coconut, which blends together and it will  melt in your mouth. Martabak Manis

“MARTABAK MANIS” , I can’t think of its English name, well who doesn’t know martabak? The most favourite and popular night snack in Indonesia. The first martabak was made in 1930, it kinda look like a traditional cake, where the mixture of flour, milk, sugar,some kind like pancake mixture is putted on a pan. Yeah ! its Indonesian pancake ! but with the size much more larger than america’s pancake, and much more thicker. After the mixture is cooked well, its is topped with cheese, chocolate, nuts, or you could even put nuttela ore ovomaltine on it ( modern style martabak) and ofcourse, don’t forget to put some milk on it.

Sekoteng

SEKOTENG”  is a kind of ginger soup . in this food you could find and taste lots of Indonesian spices, it has a rich taste. Sekoteng also have some benefits for our health, like it could make our flu better, make our body warmer. The recipe for making sekoteng is very simple and easy, where you’ll need ginger, doughtball made of flour with nuts inside it, plain toast, jelly, roasted nuts. First we need to steam the ginger , put some water, and after steaming, boil the ginger with water and sugar, this is for the soup, then its done actually, where you just need to put all the other ingredients in, that’s it !

Not only in Indonesia, but there are some restaurants in the Western that has given out martabak. One of them is The Martabak Café opening in West Covina, California. According to the reviews, people that has tasted this viral Indonesian dessert seemed to have very positive comments.  This café serves various kinds of martabak such as nutella cheese pandan martabak, chocolate pandan martabak, nutella cheese banana martabak, chocolate peanut martabak, and many more flavor combinations. This pancake-alike dessert is made from egg, flour, butter, chocolate, cheese, nuts, and many other ingredients.
